Server Sadness

This is the story of a girl… who accidentally deleted everything off of her server (for those of you that don’t know what a server is, it’s a place online where you can keep all your files). Yesterday I switched my blog over to a new host (thank god!) and then decided that I wanted to create a new “Live” page for people to go to when I’m streaming. Well once I finished creating it, I opened up Cyberduck to access my server, then saw I already had a folder named “live” (and so decided to delete it). I’m guessing what happened is that I had my root folder selected as well and without knowing it, I deleted all the contents of my server. This included all of my files, folders, images, videos, and most importantly all of my websites that I had created and saved over the past 6 months. This wouldn’t be a big deal if I had everything already backed up on my computer, but I really only have about 1/2 of it on my hard drive. Everything else is gone forever and I will have to recreate it. This my friends, is what we call a complete fuck up. Pardon my french but it’s true.

Morals of the story: 1) Double check before you delete anything from anywhere and 2) Life sucks, then you die.

Sorry to hear this. You have to add to the morals that we should keep regular backups of our stuff not only on our computers but also on cd/dvd.

I got good news for you though, your blog looks GREAT on IE7 AGAIN!!! ;-)

    Hey Rachel,

Do you serve your content yourself?

If not: I dunno if you have tried it or not, but have you attempted to contact your hosting provider? They do backups, generally, as part of their serving routine in case something that THEY do borks your site.

It is entirely possible that they have a full back up of your content.

    Worth an email, for sure.
    :D ave

PS: Your picture for this post is hilarious, btw.

    Hi

I always get my files dumbed in trash first when I delete something? Did your control panel miss this feature.

As Dave suggested you could ask your Hosting provider if a backup is available.

I completely agree with Dave. The pic is hilarious. In fact you look so cute when you are pissed.:D
