I’ve always said, if I’m living in Texas when SXSW rolls around, I plan on going whether I have a badge or not. Yes, a lot of the parties/events are “badge only”, but that’s why it helps to have friends in high places. Usually I can still get into a few events by sneaking in with people I know, but there’s also lots to do when you don’t have a badge. And, even if you know nothing about SXSW, Austin is always a great place to visit. If any of you out in the interwebs plan on attending this year as well, take a look at my ever-changing to-do list for next week HERE.
p.s. Let me know if there’s something I haven’t listed that you think would be exceedingly enjoyable! 🙂
A few weeks ago while in Fort Worth, Derek and I discovered it was National Record Store Day. In the spirit of things we decided to go hang out at the closest store we could find, and lucky for us, Doc’s Records and Vintage was providing free food/drinks and a storewide discount! Derek recorded a bunch of clips and put this nice little video together, so I thought I’d share it with you all 🙂
Today I won a crapload of free song downloads from Upbeats.com
In my iTunes I already have all the songs that I know that I want. But (obviously) that doesn’t mean I have all the good music I could ever possibly want. So today I decided to browse through Upbeats and find some good music that I didn’t already know about. My downloads from today are as follows:
The Field- Yesterday and Today
This is a really melodic (and slightly hypnotic) electronic album. Perfect for my headphones in art class, so I don’t have to listen to the other students’ bullsh music. Highlights: Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime
Yeah Yeah Yeahs- It’s Blitz
Karen O is amazing, and so is this album. It’s got a little bit of anger, a little bit of sadness, and a little bit of whatever it is that makes you wanna dance. Highlights: Zero & Heads Will Roll
IAMX – Kingdom of Welcome Addiction
This album is… sexy? Powerful? Strange? Lyrically awesome? Yah, pretty much all of those. Highlights: Tear Garden, Kingdom of Welcome Addiction, & An I For An I
30 Seconds to Mars- This Is War
This album came out about a month ago, but I’d been looking forward to it for the last year (when I first heard about it). It was totally worth the wait. Highlights: Kings and Queens, This is War, & Night of the Hunter
Lily Allen – It’s Not Me, It’s You
Lily is hilariously sarcastic, and (on this album especially) provides a much more electro-sound to her usual pop goodness. Her lyrics make you think “omg did she seriously just say that?!” but in a totally awesome way. Highlights:the whole damn album
Derek (@djsteen), Cait (@kissmecait), and I were eating at Johnny Rockets on the Third Street Promenade (in Santa Monica, California) where we got to watch and listen to Mr. Eddie Wakes perform some great covers of classic songs.
