Movie Math

In case you didn’t know, I’m currently earning my BFA in Graphic Design/Advertising. I’m in a Senior Studio class which requires students to complete a portfolio book, filled with the best content they can pull together. I was initially having a little trouble filling my book (mostly because my best work is websites and the professors want various types of design), but eventually I got back on track and started producing some really cool new stuff. I’ve decided to share these with you all over the next week, with this post specifically featuring my latest series- “Movie Math”.

The Arbors- How They Fail 85% of the Time

Don’t get me wrong, The Arbors is a beautiful apartment complex and has quite a few nice amenities. But if something goes wrong during your stay there… good luck getting that taken care of in a smart, productive way and/or in a timely manner.

I lived here last year with a couple of friends, but by the beginning of the Spring ’09 semester, all hell had broken loose. Long story short- roommate #1 had her boyfriend living in the apartment, while roommate #2 and I were gone for Christmas break. The boyfriend and his friends completely trashed the apartment, putting holes in the walls and doors, massive stains on the carpet, broken mirrors in the bathroom, and so much more. And so, roommate #1 was kicked out, roommate #2 moved out (after being physically threatened by rm #1) and I was stuck wondering what the hell I was supposed to do.

I chose to stay at the apartment for the next 6 months by myself, and in return asked that the largest bedroom (originally belonging to rm #1) be given to me once it was cleaned up and available for rent. This is where the problems started. When I came back from Summer break, not only was I not given the room I was promised by the management, but I was also given two new roommates who’s compatibility forms were in no way matched with mine. Also, the carpets weren’t replaced (just vacuumed and spot-treated) and the doors weren’t replaced (just patched up and painted). The people who were here working on these things not only left my lights on while I was gone but also the air conditioning. They left to-go boxes of old food in my refrigerator, they ate my ice cream, and drank my wine. I reported this to the office, and told them I’d received an electricity bill for $60 for the 3 weeks I was never home, and what did they give me? $20 take it or leave it.

The things I’ve mentioned here are only 1/2 the problems I’ve had with The Arbors. You can see Derek’s opinion on the matter here: http://djsteen.com/wp/p/394

Catching Up

With school starting back up a couple weeks ago, trying to get situated with new roommates, and looking to find a job/more freelance work, life has been a little hectic. I’ve had a few other personal issues going on as well but let’s not get into that just yet 😉 I still have some videos to edit and pictures to upload from Australia, as well as a couple videos I’ve made since I’ve gotten back to Texas. Other than Twitter, I’ve been pretty fail on the social front! And as some of you know, my memory isn’t the best and so my future posts about Australia won’t likely be as detailed as the ones previous. I’m sorry!!!

Here’s a a list of the things to expect to see blogged in the next week or so:

✛ Information about the new Final Cut Studio (which Derek and I became really pumped about when I was in Sydney)

✛ Details about the website I made for Derek’s mom’s acting studio- http://actorscreative.com

✛ An explanation as to why I’m constantly so angry at The Arbors (my apt. complex)

✛ What are pikelets? And who is Picasso?! (not the artist!)

✛ Video and pictures of all the great animals at the Sydney Wildlife World

✛ What HDR photography is and why I love it 🙂

✛ Details about the audition Derek and I went to for a kissing scene as well as being extras on the set of Home & Away

✛ Coming back to Texas! 🙁

And allll kinds of random stuff that’s happened since I got back…

Check back daily to see if I’ve posted anything new, and yell at me on Twitter if you think I’m slacking off! lol
